After Divorce, My Ex-Wife Became My Creditor - Chapter 5 - Pickup
Everyone comes to a bar for different reasons. Some seek entertainment, some crave the lively atmosphere, others want to drown their sorrows, and a few are there for a romantic encounter. Wen Nuan’s arrival made most of the men in the bar forget their original intentions; now they had only one goal.
To pursue her.
Having been accustomed to roses, encountering the fresh scent of a lily made them realize what they truly liked.
Most importantly, this woman seemed to have a solid financial background. Her clothes and phone were ordinary, suggesting average spending habits, but the Cartier bracelet on her wrist was no small expense.
Men often fantasize about a beautiful woman taking an interest in them, especially one who is wealthy. Even if she doesn’t support them financially, at least they wouldn’t have to spend money on her.
Men always have an inexplicable confidence, especially when they’re drunk.
Many had already failed in their attempts to chat her up. This pure lily sat at the bar, sipping expensive red wine, ignoring the bartender’s cocktail tricks, only asking him to pour her another glass.
The more Wen Nuan drank, the angrier she became. How could she not help but think of Han Qian, that guy? Besides being a good cook, keeping the house tidy, doing laundry well, being smart, and a bit handsome, did he have any other merits?
Most importantly, he had the audacity to propose a divorce!
Han Qian dumped me, Wen Nuan?
Already tipsy, Wen Nuan didn’t realize that Lin Zongheng wasn’t even on her mind.
“Alcohol doesn’t intoxicate; people intoxicate themselves! Hello, beautiful, may I have the honor of buying you a drink?”
She couldn’t remember how many had already tried to hit on her. Wen Nuan just wanted to drink in peace. She turned to look at a man, around forty, dressed in designer clothes, and frowned.
“Do you earn six figures annually? Own a watch worth over a million? Have a deputy director-general level relative? Do I need your drink?”
The middle-aged man smiled and turned away. From her tone, he could tell she wasn’t asking him but telling him what she had.
After brushing off one suitor, Wen Nuan was about to leave when another approached her. This one was about twenty-three or twenty-four, dressed trendily, with white-dyed hair and frameless glasses. Unlike the gentlemanly middle-aged man, he didn’t bother with words and tried to make a move. Wen Nuan frowned, dodged, and picked up her phone to leave.
The young man wasn’t about to let such a beauty slip away easily. He spread his arms to block her path, eyeing her lecherously, and said with a grin, “Come on, give me a chance. My friends over there are watching. It’s not nice to leave like this, right? It’s better to have a drink with us. Being alone is so lonely. How could an old man understand the world of the young? Your legs are beautiful, mind if I touch them?”
“Get lost.”
With that, Wen Nuan splashed her drink in his face. The middle-aged man, who had been about to leave, returned and sat nearby, seemingly waiting for a chance to play the hero.
The young man, thoroughly embarrassed, dropped his pretense, cursed, and raised his hand to get rough. But his hand never fell; his wrist was caught by someone-a very fat man had appeared beside him.
The man wasn’t very tall, around 1.75 meters, but he weighed over 100 kilograms. His chubby appearance was quite endearing. Holding onto the young man’s hand, he chuckled coldly.
“Zhang Haowei, you think you can get away with roughhousing here? Not everyone is someone you can mess with, got it?”
Zhang Haowei’s friends noticed the commotion and started to approach, but the chubby guy didn’t even glance at them. He flung Zhang Haowei’s arm aside and then turned to Wen Nuan with a gentle smile.
“Sis-in-law, why are you here by yourself?”
Wen Nuan, already tipsy, looked at the chubby guy with a puzzled expression and tilted her head curiously.
“Han Qian’s brother?”
“Sworn brother. My last name is Ma, just call me Kexin. This bar is co-owned by my uncle’s sister and someone else. I’m often here. Did you drive here? It’s not very safe this late. If these guys try anything shady, it won’t be good. I called Qian-Ge earlier; he should be here soon. Just wait a bit, okay?”
Han Qian is coming?
Wen Nuan didn’t know why she felt a sudden panic. She wobbled, trying to leave the bar. The more she wanted to avoid this guy, the more entangled she seemed to be with him. As she tried to leave, Zhang Haowei’s group wouldn’t let her go without an explanation. Ma Kexin frowned, grabbed a chair, and pointed at the troublemakers, cursing angrily.
“Don’t you dare act like you own the place. Do you really think I won’t do anything to you? Hua, go upstairs and tell them to stop playing around. Someone’s causing trouble here.”
Knowing the kind of people Kexin’s friends were, Zhang Haowei’s group exchanged glances and decided to leave. Kexin added one more thing.
“My sis-in-law’s uncle works at the municipal public security bureau. Don’t even think about keying her car out of spite. Can you afford to mess with someone who can pay for damages?”
Realizing they had picked the wrong fight, Zhang Haowei’s group left, feeling a bit scared. The middle-aged man in the distance, hoping for a chance to play hero, was disappointed but stayed to see who this woman’s man was.
Wen Nuan staggered towards the exit, with Kexin maintaining a respectful distance, ensuring no one, not even women, got too close.
He was the only one among Han Qian’s friends who knew about Wen Nuan’s background. Everything she wore was valuable.
Just as Wen Nuan was about to stumble out of the bar, she bumped into someone coming in. She found herself swept up in a princess carry. Ma Kexin grinned and turned to leave, while the onlookers realized that her man had arrived.
“You drink? And you drove here? What if Kexin hadn’t noticed you and you drove back? And you came to a place like this. Have you thought about what could’ve happened to you? Huh? Covering your face won’t help.”
In Han Qian’s arms, Wen Nuan covered her face with her hands, not wanting him to see her expression. Han Qian, too tired to scold her further, turned to leave the bar. At that moment, the middle-aged man blocked his path, speaking softly.
“You can’t take her away. I’m responsible for this young lady’s safety.”
Originally planning to take a shower and go to bed, Han Qian rushed over as soon as he heard that Wen Nuan was at the bar. Seeing her drunken state only fueled his anger. And now someone was blocking his way?
Han Qian frowned at the middle-aged man, speaking in a cold tone.
“Is it any of your business if I take my wife home? Are you responsible for her safety? We’re both men, don’t act so high and mighty in a place like this.”
The middle-aged man wasn’t offended; he simply smiled faintly.
“Who can prove she’s your woman?”
Han Qian looked down at the smirk on Wen Nuan’s lips and smiled himself. He pulled the divorce certificate from his pocket and tossed it at the man.
“Even as an ex-husband, I’m a lot safer than a stranger like you, right? And keep your eyes on me, no need to look elsewhere.”
“So, you were once married. My apologies, young man. Here’s my card; I’d like to be friends.”
“No need. Even divorced, I don’t want anyone bothering my ex-wife. If you really want to help, pick up the divorce certificate for me.”
Just as they stepped out of the bar, Wen Nuan, hit by the fresh air, vomited all over Han Qian. In that moment, he felt like he was about to lose it, gritting his teeth in frustration.
“I should take you to Mom right now, let her see how you’re getting drunk at a bar right after our divorce! Give me the car keys!”
Wen Nuan, in a daze, looked at Han Qian and struggled to speak.
“She’s my mom, not yours.”
“Then should I take you back to your mom’s? Didn’t bring your house keys? Wen Nuan, were you planning not to go home?”
Han Qian was getting genuinely angry, really angry.
Wen Nuan huddled in Han Qian’s arms like a child who had done something wrong. After a while, he heard her sobbing.
“Han Qian, I don’t have a home anymore. My mom sold my house.”
