- Chapter 21 - This Woman Is Really No Good
“Han Qian, did you sell yourself? Spent a night being pampered by some rich ladies, and they even bought you a suit? Tsk, tsk, tsk, Gucci! You even had time to shop at Rongyao?”
Yan Qingqing grabbed Han Qian by the collar, yelling furiously. Yang Jia stood nearby, unsure whether to leave or stay, but clearly too curious to walk away. She was the most gossip-loving person in the entire company.
Han Qian slightly lowered his head to look at Yan Qingqing, only to be met with a headbutt to the nose from this fierce madam. Tears instantly welled up in his eyes as he clutched his nose and staggered back, shouting angrily.
“Are you crazy? You scolded me for being late, and now you’re getting physical?”
Scolding General Manager Yan? Yang Jia was stunned, listening from the side, while Yan Qingqing’s face turned livid as she gritted her teeth and shouted.
“Han Qian, I’m done with you! You think you can keep playing me just because I almost ran you over with my car? Fine, I’ll give you what you want today. Yang Jia, call the security guard to throw Han Qian out. I’m going to crush him.”
The fierce madam was ruthless. Yang Jia turned to run, but Han Qian quickly called out.
“Yang Jia, come back!”
He then looked at Yan Qingqing, frowning.
“How am I playing you? You want a planning proposal, I give you a planning proposal. You need a solution, I provide a solution. What’s your problem? Can’t I have two days to go out and do some research? Do you think sitting in the office all day will give me inspiration? Is Rongyao some kind of magic fountain? If I didn’t have the skills, could I handle your demands? This planning proposal needs to be confidential. If it’s copied, we lose our edge. And why were you yelling at Yang-Jie in the General Affairs Department this morning? Can we work together or not? If not, I’ll resign and you’ll lose out. If we continue, I guarantee you won’t lose money.”
“Give me the planning proposal.”
“Do you want to pry open my head with a wrench to see it?”
“Yang Jia, go get a wrench.”
Han Qian turned to run, not doubting for a second that Yan Qingqing would actually hit him with a wrench. Yan Qingqing wouldn’t have reached her position at such a young age without some guts. She gave Yang Jia a look, and Yang Jia immediately closed the door, blocking Han Qian’s escape.
Yan Qingqing sat back in her executive chair, crossing her legs, and spoke softly.
“Make two cups of coffee.”
“I don’t drink coffee.”
“Then make tea, and give everyone in the General Affairs Department a 200 bonus, except for Yang Lan. She didn’t clean today. Also, have her prepare an exclusive contract to sign Han Qian.”
Though the talk of an exclusive contract was a joke, Yang Jia didn’t dare take it lightly. She left the office, making sure to close the door behind her, and hurried to the General Affairs Department. This was a huge piece of gossip-Han Qian wasn’t afraid of General Manager Yan, and General Manager Yan backed down.
Soon, the tea was delivered, along with an exclusive contract. Yang Jia then ran off to the finance department. The little girl was quite busy for the day.
Yan Qingqing pointed at the teapot on the coffee table, her voice cold.
“Tell me about your plan. If I’m not satisfied, this teapot is going to end up on your head.”
Han Qian automatically tuned out the latter half of her sentence; half-listening to her was more than enough. He picked up the teapot and walked towards Yan Qingqing, who abruptly stood up, her face turning pale as she watched him, her voice trembling.
“Don’t do anything rash, Han Qian!”
Han Qian paid no mind to her, filling her cup with hot water and speaking calmly.
“You should drink some hot water if you’re on your period. My plan is still to choose the mall. This afternoon, I’ll have Su Liang make one final inspection, and a decision will be made. You need to be ready to approve the paperwork. There wasn’t enough time to write it all down, but I can only say that you should try to secure that land. Either sign a life-and-death statement or an exclusive contract; I definitely won’t let you make a losing deal because I need that four hundred thousand to save lives. I can’t guarantee you’ll remember all this, so you might want to inform the executives to prepare for a meeting tomorrow morning. I’ll explain my detailed plan in the conference room.”
Yan Qingqing picked up her cup of water from the table, no longer angry with Han Qian, and asked with furrowed brows.
“You’re very confident about yourself. This matter doesn’t need to disturb the board of directors, but an executive meeting is necessary. I can’t be sure if you are sent by my enemies to make me look foolish; I can’t trust you.”
Han Qian nodded lightly.
“Your concerns make sense. We aren’t close, so naturally, you can’t just trust me, and I can’t offer any guarantees. I can bring Yang-Jie from the General Affairs Department to the conference room with me. She has some of my initial plans, and even if I were scheming, I wouldn’t sacrifice a single mother. Besides, making a fool of myself is better than doing nothing. If it fails, it’s me who looks foolish, and at most, you get criticized for misjudging people. You don’t have to pay me four hundred thousand. Four hundred thousand is an astronomical figure to me. We could sign a contract, and if I fail, you can hang my picture on the display screens at Rongyao Square and let me face social death.”
Han Qian was inherently confident and proudly believed he could not fail. Yan Qingqing was moved by Han Qian’s final words, which were the most effective reassurance. If he failed, he wouldn’t be able to survive in this city, not to mention the surrounding cities.
What made Yan Qingqing most suspicious was where Han Qian got his expensive Gucci suit from, as he was supposedly very short on money. How could he spend tens of thousands on a Gucci suit?
Seeing Yan Qingqing staring at his suit, Han Qian scratched his head awkwardly and whispered.
“It’s rented for five hundred a day. Wearing something expensive in the mall stops people from looking down on me. I might meet some people from renovation companies, just putting on a front. I swear it’s not for me.”
Yan Qingqing’s eyes revealed disdain, then she pulled a tie out of her drawer and threw it to Han Qian.
“Put this on. This tie costs over two thousand. Why should I even be explaining this to you? I can’t be bothered to argue with you anymore. I can agree to your plan, but tonight, you, Su Liang, and Yang Lan can’t leave the company. I’ll also stay and watch over you. If the meeting goes well tomorrow morning, you can go home to rest. I’ll pay you a bonus of one hundred thousand, but the rest will have to wait until your plan is confirmed to be profitable. If it’s not approved, you’ll still have to go home.”
Han Qian hesitated, thinking of someone at home who was akin to setting his own house on fire. Failing to agree might jeopardize the whole plan and even cost him his job. After a long silence, Han Qian spoke up.
“What’s the dinner like tonight?”
“Four dishes and one soup, with enough drinks, and two packs of Ruan Zhonghua1.”
“Hmm… prepare a bed for Yang-Jie. She’s older and staying up late isn’t good for her.”
“Okay, why don’t you ask for one for me?”
“Does the fierce madam need to rest?”
“Han Qian, I swear I’ll kill you.”
In the instant the hot water broke, Han Qian turned and ran. As he left the office, he heard an angry roar behind him, sending shivers down his spine. All his bravado was just a front; the sight of Yan Qingqing made his legs tremble.
This woman really was no good.
