Despite a restless night due to Nangong Yao’s sarcastic remarks, Yu Nuanxin pulled herself together and headed to work with renewed vigor the next morning. There was an important meeting scheduled, originally meant for three people to present, but Yu Linglong had shifted all the responsibility onto her. Essentially, she had to do the work of three people. Fortunately, her efficiency was high, and she had already completed everything yesterday. However, ten minutes before the meeting, while organizing her documents, she discovered that one folder was missing.

Could it have been left in Liang Jingtang’s car?

She quickly called him, but there was no answer. She tried again, still no response!

Panic set in.

The morning meeting hinged on that particular document, and the data was too extensive for her to remember. She had always worked diligently to avoid mistakes, so even though Yu Linglong disliked her, she couldn’t find any faults in her work. Without that document, she would be in big trouble.

She kept dialing Liang Jingtang’s number, but there was no answer. Colleagues began filing into the office, and Yu Linglong urged her, “What are you dawdling for? You’re presenting today! If you can’t handle it, just say so!”

“I’m coming!” Yu Nuanxin had no choice but to organize the documents she had and bravely entered the meeting room. She was well-acquainted with the cases needed for the meeting, so the first part went smoothly, though Yu Linglong grew increasingly impatient. Someone whispered something in her ear, and she interrupted rudely with a strange smile.

“Everything you’re saying is nonsense. I want the data!”

Yu Nuanxin was taken aback.

She could bet that with Yu Linglong’s empty-headedness, she didn’t even know what data was. It was just her ‘advisor’ trying to curry favor by deliberately causing trouble.

She recited some data from memory, but couldn’t recall the rest, leaving her stuck and unsure of what to do.

Yu Linglong seized the opportunity, ready to reprimand her, when the cleaning lady suddenly knocked and entered, beckoning to Yu Nuanxin. She quickly went over, “Is there something wrong?”

“A handsome guy asked me to give this to you!” The cleaning lady’s eyes were practically heart-shaped, “He’s really handsome!”

Yu Nuanxin saw it was the document and was overjoyed. “Where is he now?”

“He’s still outside! I’m going out to chat with him, you go get ’em!”

“Yu Nuanxin, what are you doing! Who allowed you to talk to the cleaning staff during a meeting?” Yu Linglong asked irritably.

“It’s nothing!” With the document in hand, Yu Nuanxin was brimming with confidence, a smile playing on her lips. “I just asked the cleaning lady to print a document for me; all the data you want is in here.”

Yu Linglong’s face darkened, “Her job is to clean, what right do you have to make her do odd jobs!”

“I didn’t know I was getting paid for ten people’s work!”

“Yu Nuanxin-” Yu Linglong gritted her teeth. Why couldn’t she ever catch her? Just when she thought she had her cornered, Yu Nuanxin had slipped away again.

“I apologize for the earlier mishap. I will now continue with my presentation.”

“No need! Who wants to listen to your crappy report!” Yu Linglong stood abruptly and stormed out, fuming and carrying herself like a boss.

The other employees exchanged glances, feeling that her reaction was a bit over the top.

Although it was unclear why Yu Linglong had such a vendetta against Yu Nuanxin, personal grievances should be settled privately. Was it necessary to disrupt the most important weekly meeting?

Even though work could be a bit dull at times, some colleagues found amusement in joining the effort to trouble Yu Nuanxin. Still, being lawyers, they had ambitions and wanted to work hard.

The meeting room was silent, and no one joined in flattering Yu Linglong. She turned around and roared like a lioness, “Why are you all still sitting here? Meeting’s over!”

“Meeting’s over, meeting’s over… Everyone, back to work…” The Deputy Supervisor tried to smooth things over and ease the tension.

Yu Nuanxin shook her head helplessly. She wondered if Nangong Yao had lost his mind by appointing such a troublemaker as Supervisor. Was he trying to ruin the Law Department? With her personality, it was hard to imagine how long people could tolerate her.

Carrying her materials back to her desk, Yu Nuanxin quickly headed out. Liang Jingtang was standing at the door, listening to the cleaning lady’s gossip, nodding occasionally, with a gentle smile on his face. One had to admire his temperament; he was truly a treasure to women.

Seeing her approach, Liang Jingtang politely bid farewell to the cleaning lady and walked over to her. “The meeting ended so soon?”

“Yes! Thank you! Otherwise, I’d be in big trouble!”

“Just be more careful next time and don’t be so forgetful! You mentioned treating me to a meal yesterday, does that still stand?”

“Of course it does.” Yu Nuanxin glanced at her watch; it was nearly lunchtime. “Where would you like to eat?”

“It’s too hot outside; let’s stay at the company. The cleaning lady highly recommended it, saying the food here is quite good!”

“It is good, but…” He was too dazzling, and having lunch with him might spark some gossip. Especially with the office crowd, who thrived on chaos.

“If you think it’s inconvenient, we can go somewhere else.”

“No, no, it’s convenient!” Yu Nuanxin laughed at herself, wondering when she had become so timid, worrying about having lunch with a friend. Let others say what they want; no one has the right to interfere with her friendships!

Besides, she heard the gossip this morning that Nangong Yao was out for a meeting, avoiding the risk of running into him.

With that thought, she felt much more relaxed and smiled, “Order whatever you like!”
