100 Days with the Contract Lover - Chapter 125
Wu Lian chuckled helplessly, adjusting her position so she could rest more comfortably on his shoulder, while he continued to pour drinks one after another. He glanced at the time on his phone.
He should be here soon!
Sure enough, within minutes, Nangong Yao stormed in with a fierce aura. Seeing Wu Lian holding Yu Nuanxin, his fury erupted, and he charged forward, grabbing Wu Lian and swinging a fist towards his face. “Damn it! What did you do to her?”
“Her clothes are intact. What do you think I could have done?” Wu Lian replied nonchalantly.
“You let her drink?”
“She was upset. Drinking is the best way to solve it. Look at her now, drunk and no longer sad!”
“Bastard-” Nangong Yao swung his fist, but Wu Lian easily dodged it, frowning. “Why are you acting like a barbarian? We’re all civilized people here, no need for violence, alright? If I really wanted to do something to her, would I have called you over? Do you really think I’m that twisted, needing an audience?”
He shrugged him off. “Listen carefully to what she’s saying from her heart. This might be your last chance, so make the most of it!” He said with a meaningful tone, picked up his jacket, and left.
Silently, he thought, Nuanxin, this might be my last time helping you. If this doesn’t make him cherish you, I’ll take you away.
Wu Lian’s words left Nangong Yao stunned for a while. After contemplating for a long time, he finally approached Yu Nuanxin. Her face was flushed, and she was deeply intoxicated. Her makeup had smudged, leaving traces of tears, making her look pitiful. Had his actions hurt her so deeply? A pang of guilt crept into his heart.
“Let’s go home!”
He tried to lift her, but Yu Nuanxin let out a soft whimper, slowly opened her eyes, and looked at him in a daze. “Who… who are you?”
“Nangong Yao?”
She stared at him for a long time, then suddenly cried out, “No, you’re not Nangong Yao… He only bullies me… He wouldn’t care if I lived or died…”
“…”
She pushed him away and reached for more alcohol, but Nangong Yao quickly stopped her. “No more drinking. Let’s go home!”
“Home? What home? My mother is gone. I have no home! Oh… you’re talking about Nangong Yao’s home… That’s not my home, just a cold… grave! Family wouldn’t ignore me, wouldn’t be so indifferent…”
“Do you know how much of a jerk Nangong Yao is? He doesn’t even see me as a person! In his eyes, I’m just a pawn, a tool for his use. Once I’m no longer useful, he just… kicks me aside!”
Her eyes stung, and she began to sob softly, “But I’m so stupid… He treats me a little better, and I foolishly think he might like me… So I try so hard, so hard… not to do anything he dislikes… I even learned to cook for him, hoping to give him a sense of home…”
“Even knowing he has someone else in his heart… I still foolishly hope… that one day he’ll fall in love with me… But in the end, I realize… it’s just a ridiculous lie… He hates me, despises me… How could he possibly like me? It’s my own humiliation!”
“For him, my father and I are like detestable parasites… like rats… always scheming to get something from him… But I really haven’t… I… I just have no choice, because he’s my father…” Her thoughts grew more sorrowful, and large tears continued to fall.
“He… he even accused me of having affairs with other men, but it’s really not true… We’re just friends… The only person I like is him… How could I be involved with other men… I… I explained, but he didn’t believe me, even calling me promiscuous and fickle? Why, why would he say that about me?”
“Isn’t he supposed to not care about me? Why does he meddle in my affairs? I’m not a toy, not his possession! Why insult me with things I haven’t done? I’m a person, I have dignity, I can feel hurt… sob sob…”
“He’s so terrible… so selfish… so hateful… I don’t want to like him anymore… not even a little… I’m so tired… really tired… I’m about to give up… Mom, save me… tell me what to do?”
Her accusations were like sharp thorns, piercing Nangong Yao’s heart. He reflected on whether he had truly been so harsh to her.
In the past, he indeed believed she had ulterior motives and was involved with many men. But thinking back, throughout their marriage, she never asked him for anything, and the jewelry he bought her was always carefully stored away after wearing.
She had many men around her, each one seemingly threatening. He was angry, stubbornly convinced there was something between them. But he never considered that perhaps it was one-sided from them, and she never responded.
He couldn’t be sure of the truth. But if the saying “in vino veritas” held any weight, then he had misunderstood her. His actions had deeply hurt her, and she had been carrying too much pain inside.
Towards her, he felt a mix of pity and guilt, realizing for the first time how despicable he had been, heartlessly hurting a woman. He wished he could do something to make amends, even if just a little.
“I shouldn’t like him… shouldn’t…” Yu Nuanxin shook her head, denying herself.
Nangong Yao stepped forward, firmly taking her hand and pulling her into his embrace. He held her tightly, refusing to let go. For the first time in his life, he apologized. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry for hurting you… I won’t do it again…”
Yu Nuanxin cried, and she hugged him back tightly. “Really? Can you… be a little nicer to me… just a little is enough… I’m really tired, really tired… I’m about to break… my heart is so weary…”
“I won’t let you be this tired anymore. Let’s go home, okay?” She truly tugged at his heartstrings.
That night, Nangong Yao wanted nothing more than to stay by her side and take care of her.
