100 Days with the Contract Lover - Chapter 124
When Wu Lian arrived, Yu Nuanxin was sitting by the roadside, hugging her knees, her face buried in them, her whole body trembling like a leaf. She was barefoot, with a pair of high heels abandoned beside her, looking like a forsaken child, so pitiful. As he approached, he heard her soft sobbing. He sat down next to her and sighed, “What did Nangong Yao do to you this time?”
Yu Nuanxin continued to sob quietly, offering no reply.
He patted her shoulder, “Come on, don’t cry. Tell me, and I’ll help you teach him a lesson…”
Before he could finish, she suddenly threw herself into his arms, crying out in despair, “Liang Jingtang knows who I am now… He’ll never speak to me again…”
“What happened? Tell me everything, come on, I’m here…” he coaxed gently, and Yu Nuanxin began to recount the events in broken sentences. “Nangong Yao is such a jerk, a real jerk…”
“So that’s what happened. Isn’t it better this way? You didn’t have the courage to tell him yourself, and he did it for you.”
“But it’s not how I wanted it to happen, not with Nangong Yao telling him like that. It hurt him so much…”
“The real pain comes from the truth. No matter how you tell him, you can’t change the fact that you deceived him. He would be hurt regardless…”
“But… I never imagined it would turn out like this… I didn’t want to hurt him…” she choked out, her voice breaking with sobs.
“Alright, the damage is done. Crying won’t help. Think about how to make it right!”
“Should I go find him now?”
“He’s at his most hurt right now. If you go to him, no matter what you say, he won’t listen. Give him some time to calm down…” He gently wiped the tears from her eyes with his thumb, offering a smile to lift her spirits. “Come on, stop crying! You haven’t put on your ugly face today, at least let me see you looking pretty, or I’ll forget what you look like…”
“I’m really not in the mood for jokes right now…”
“Alright, no jokes then. I’ll take you somewhere that’ll definitely cheer you up.”
He reached out to take her hand, but she hesitated. “I’m so tired, I just want to go home…”
“Go home and face that jerk Nangong Yao, or hide in your room crying all night? Why torture yourself like that? Trust me, I’ll make you feel better.” Seeing her hesitation, Wu Lian scooped her up in a princess carry, grabbed her shoes, and placed her in the car, winking at her. “Don’t worry, leave everything to me!”
…
An hour later.
Yu Nuanxin realized that the ‘happy place’ he mentioned was actually a bar, a VIP room, and she exclaimed that she had been tricked, eager to leave.
Wu Lian held her hand, and after the waiter had mixed the drinks, he pointed to a row of glasses and said, “These are Depth Bombs. Drink them, and I guarantee you’ll forget all your troubles!”
“I don’t want to drown my sorrows in alcohol. Even if I forget tonight, I’ll remember tomorrow, and my body will feel awful!”
“Don’t be such a downer, okay? Tonight is your worst night. I promise, once you get through it, things will be much better!” He pushed a large beer glass into her hand, “Drink it, and all your worries will disappear.”
Yu Nuanxin hesitated, then took a small sip before deciding to gulp it down. She felt so miserable at that moment, even a brief escape from her troubles was welcome. Her head throbbed painfully, and she didn’t want to think about anything anymore…
…
Another hour passed, and four large beer mugs lay empty. Yu Nuanxin was dizzy from drinking, her face flushed, and a surge of heat coursed through her chest, making her feel impulsive. She grabbed Wu Lian’s collar, laughing drunkenly, “Let me tell you a secret, actually… actually, I’m Nangong Yao’s wife…” She giggled, her eyes bleary with intoxication. “How about that? Jealous, aren’t you? The title of Madam Nangong…”
Suddenly, her mouth turned down, her face a picture of misery. “But who knows how bitter I feel inside… Nangong Yao is such a jerk, a big demon king, he’s not nice to me at all… He just uses me… I’m nothing but a tool for him… Ha… a tool… Boo hoo… Mom, where are you? I miss you so much… Nuanxin is living such a hard life… Mom…”
Wu Lian let her vent her drunken frustrations; her heart was too burdened, it all needed to be released, holding it in was unbearable.
“Hey, you look so familiar… Who are you?” She boldly patted his face, letting out a long “Oh,” then chuckled, “I know, you’re a gigolo… Hahaha!”
Wu Lian almost stumbled. Was she truly drunk or just pretending? How could she say he looked like a gigolo? In what way did he resemble one?
“Haha… not bad looking.” She examined him like a product, pinching and patting his face, “Your skin is pretty good… fair and beautiful, tall and slender… hmm… quite a feast for the eyes…” She said, even licking her lips.
“Come… let me have a taste…”
Wu Lian was caught between laughter and tears. Was this what they called drunken misconduct? Assaulting an innocent man? He brought her to the bar purely for her to vent, with no other intentions, she shouldn’t be doing this!
“Come on, don’t hide… I care for you…” Yu Nuanxin held his face, puckering her lips to kiss him. Her face was as red as a monkey’s behind, her lips swollen like sausages, drunkenly ugly, yet as she leaned in for a kiss, Wu Lian’s heart seemed to skip a beat.
Breathless…
She was drunk, her mind unclear, but was he drunk too? He should push her away.
Yet, his limbs felt frozen, unable to move, and even weak.
All that remained was his heartbeat.
Thump-thump-thump-
He actually anticipated the kiss.
As their lips were about to touch, he even gently closed his eyes.
But at the last moment, Yu Nuanxin’s head tilted, and she collapsed onto his shoulder.
Wu Lian smiled wryly, unsure whether he felt more helpless or disappointed, but one thing was certain, he truly felt a sense of loss.
Because of the missed kiss.
