100 Days with the Contract Lover - Chapter 121
Yu Nuanxin was eager to deny it, but Liang Jingtang spoke first, “I’m just stating the facts objectively. If necessary, I will resign.”
Nangong Yao’s gaze turned cold and intense. “Lawyer Liang, coming and going as you please, are you taking Global too lightly?”
Liang Jingtang remained calm, “I’m simply resigning through the proper channels. It has nothing to do with Global, nor is it as the president suggests.”
As the two locked eyes, Yu Nuanxin could sense the tension rising and quickly intervened, “I’m starving, let’s eat first!”
Understanding her intention, Liang Jingtang smiled gently and called the waiter, “What would you like to eat? I heard the grilled lamb chop here is famous.”
Before Yu Nuanxin could respond, Nangong Yao interjected, “She’s allergic to lamb, better go with beef steak.”
It was clear to anyone that he was marking his territory, subtly asserting his claim. Liang Jingtang, perceptive as ever, ignored him and asked Yu Nuanxin, “Are you allergic to lamb?”
Feeling uneasy, she replied, “Just a mild allergy, I can actually have a little…”
Nangong Yao’s expression darkened further, making the decision for her, “A veal steak for the lady.”
The waiter asked, “Red wine or champagne?”
“You mentioned last time that red wine was too strong, and you preferred champagne, right?” Nangong Yao asked Yu Nuanxin, a slight smile on his lips but with a dangerous glint in his eyes, as if daring her to contradict him.
Liang Jingtang, ever the gentleman, offered, “What would you like to drink? If not alcohol, juice is also nice.”
Yu Nuanxin swallowed nervously, fearing a ‘disaster,’ and answered, “Champagne, please.”
Nangong Yao’s expression softened slightly, a hint of triumph in his eyes as he cast a challenging glance at Liang Jingtang. Though slightly displeased, Liang Jingtang maintained his composure.
Xiang Wei, observing from the side, felt increasingly uncomfortable, not just because of Nangong Yao’s attention to Yu Nuanxin, but also because she felt he deserved better.
To her, this man had always been like a god-calm, noble, arrogant, never caring about anyone or anything.
Yet just now, he acted like a child, fighting over a toy, using a childish method to declare his ownership.
She couldn’t understand why Yu Nuanxin was worth him lowering himself like this.
When the food arrived, Yu Nuanxin focused on her meal, praying for this ordeal to end quickly. But the more anxious she was, the harder it was to cut the steak, producing an unpleasant noise. She quickly apologized, “Sorry…”
“I’ll do it,” Liang Jingtang offered politely, but Nangong Yao had already taken her plate to cut the steak for her.
This time, even the usually good-natured Liang Jingtang showed a hint of displeasure.
“Clumsy, can’t even cut a steak,” Nangong Yao scolded, but his tone was indulgent, making one’s heart flutter.
Yu Nuanxin wanted to do it herself, but he wouldn’t allow it. She wished she could disappear into a hole.
What was he trying to do?
She admitted his move was ruthless, but since he’d achieved his goal, couldn’t he let her go? Did he have to push her to the brink?
If she stayed any longer, she’d go crazy. Her only option was to escape, “I need to use the restroom, enjoy your meal.” She fled in haste.
Nangong Yao’s gaze followed her, a cold smile on his lips.
Did she think she could escape like this?
Yu Nuanxin rushed to the restroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed water on her flushed face. But then she remembered the fake freckles she’d applied and stopped herself. She was like an ant on a hot pan, pacing anxiously.
In the restroom, she kept telling herself to stay calm, to not be nervous…
But how could she not be nervous? She was about to explode!
After ten minutes, knowing she couldn’t hide any longer, she composed herself and walked out. As soon as she exited, she saw Nangong Yao leaning against the corridor wall, smoking.
Frightened, she turned to leave.
“How long do you plan to hide?”
She froze, her back cold. Pretending not to see him, she tried to walk away.
But Nangong Yao was there to catch her, not letting her go easily. He grabbed her wrist effortlessly. She struggled, “Let go!” It hurt!
He didn’t release her.
She was annoyed, “Nangong Yao, what do you want?”
“Didn’t you say you had nothing to do with him?”
“…We really have nothing to do with each other!”
“Then what was that just now? Do you think I’m deaf?” Nangong Yao hated it when she acted like this, clearly in the wrong, yet refusing to admit it, as if he was the one wronging her. He suddenly mocked, “If I hadn’t come, would you have agreed? You were probably thrilled, weren’t you? The location was perfect, once successful, you’d head upstairs to get a room?”
His sarcasm grew harsher with each sentence. Yu Nuanxin tried to endure it, but eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore and snapped, “You’re right, I was overjoyed. If you hadn’t ruined it, we would have already…”
“Yu Nuanxin!” Nangong Yao roared, his voice filled with anger. “Shameless.” Such words from her were like a challenge to his limits, driving him to madness.
She looked at him coldly, “In your eyes, I’ve never been a woman who knows what ‘shame’ is!” As if any contact with a man meant ‘affair’ in his eyes. Could she be any more promiscuous in his view?
Nangong Yao’s forehead veins throbbed, his temples aching. “So you finally admit to your relationship with him?”
