100 Days with the Contract Lover - Chapter 115
Yu Nuanxin spent the night resting in the hospital. The next morning, while Wu Lian went out to buy breakfast, she quickly asked the nurse for the day’s newspaper.
Sure enough, the front page was filled with news about Xia Yanzhi’s exit from the entertainment industry. She admitted that all the previous negative reports about her were true, including her rise through unspoken rules and some shady deals in the entertainment circle.
In the photo, she was covering her face and crying, surrounded by reporters, which looked utterly despairing.
Yu Nuanxin couldn’t help but feel sorry.
Wu Lian had indeed taken action…
Hearing the door open, she quickly hid the newspaper behind her, but Wu Lian, sharp-eyed, smiled and said, “No need to hide it, I’ve already seen it.” He held a bouquet of white lilies, bringing the freshness of the morning. Dressed in a white shirt and jeans, he looked like a prince straight out of a fairy tale. Who would have thought he could be so ruthless?
“Went to buy soup dumplings, happened to see someone selling flowers, so I brought a bunch back. Don’t get any ideas, thinking it’s a confession!”
Yu Nuanxin remained silent for a while before asking, “Did you really have to go that far? She worked hard for years to achieve what she has, and now it’s all gone.”
“Are you sympathizing with her?” Wu Lian raised an eyebrow, looking indifferent. “Don’t forget, she tried to ruin your face.”
“But I’m perfectly fine here, aren’t I?”
“That’s beside the point. If I hadn’t shown up in time, do you think you’d be here sympathizing with others? Isn’t there a legal term called ‘attempted murder’? If it weren’t for considering you, it wouldn’t just be leaving the entertainment industry; losing a hand would be considered light.”
“But…”
“Foolish girl, this isn’t kindness; it’s excessive sympathy. If you’re not tough on others, they’ll be tough on you. I’m just giving her a taste of her own medicine; she brought it on herself.”
Yu Nuanxin knew she couldn’t argue with him, and even if she did, it wouldn’t change the facts, so she remained silent.
“Alright, don’t look so glum. It makes me uncomfortable. I bought soup dumplings especially for you, so perk up and eat them all.”
“Wu Lian…” She called him, hesitating before asking, “Why are you helping me?”
Wu Lian thought for a moment, a smile tugging at his lips, and without a word, he pulled her into his embrace, kissing the top of her head.
His domineering yet gentle declaration rang out above her, “I want you to know that in this world, only I can bully you; no one else can!”
…
Liang Jingtang had been on a business trip in Tainan. Upon hearing about Yu Nuanxin’s hospitalization, he caught the first flight back and hurried to the hospital, only to unexpectedly bump into Wu Lian coming out of the ward. He was stunned, clearly not expecting him to be there.
Wu Lian knew he would come and greeted him with a teasing smile. “Here to visit?”
“What are you doing here?” Could he be Nuanxin’s boyfriend? Impossible! Liang Jingtang immediately dismissed the thought.
“Why can’t I be here? My relationship with her is quite special!”
Liang Jingtang clenched his fist, confidently saying, “She couldn’t possibly like you!”
“A special relationship doesn’t mean a romantic one; your thoughts are too twisted!” Wu Lian patted his shoulder. “I’m going for a smoke; you can take over.”
He brushed past him, then paused, slightly turning his face. “Since we’re family, I’ll kindly remind you, don’t fall too deeply for this woman, or you’ll regret it!”
“Are you afraid I’ll take her from you?”
“Afraid?” Wu Lian found it laughable, his tone arrogant and dismissive. “I’ve never been afraid of anyone. If she were truly my woman, I wouldn’t be saying this to you. I’ve said all I can; take care.”
Leaving those thought-provoking words, he leisurely walked away. Liang Jingtang stood there for a moment, collected his emotions, and pushed the door open.
Yu Nuanxin was still reeling from Wu Lian’s words, hearing the door open, she looked over, somewhat dazed. Seeing it was Liang Jingtang, she was a bit surprised. “Weren’t you on a business trip?”
Liang Jingtang didn’t mention his early return, only said, “Finished my business, so I came back. Heard from colleagues you were hospitalized, came to check on you! Are you alright?”
“I’m fine! See, I’m perfectly okay!”
“The more you say you’re fine, the more worried I get.” Liang Jingtang really couldn’t handle her. Clearly still a girl who doesn’t know how to protect herself, yet trying to act so strong, making him even more concerned. He had only been away for two days, and this happened; how could he not worry?
“Oh, don’t listen to their nonsense. I just got a little scared, scraped a bit of skin, and I’m just lounging in the hospital to rest for a couple of days.” She stuck out her tongue, “Sorry for making you worry!”
“I am worried,” Liang Jingtang sighed, gently touching her head, earnestly looking into her eyes. “Promise me, don’t get hurt again, okay?”
That almost pleading gaze, the tender and soothing tone, made Yu Nuanxin’s heart melt. She quickly turned her face, laughing it off. “Who wants to get hurt? It was just an accident…”
“You know what I mean!”
Yu Nuanxin fell silent. Actually, since he helped her with the lawsuit, she had sensed a hint of unusual feelings from him, but she deliberately avoided confronting it. He was incredibly good to her, and she didn’t want to hurt him. But there was no possibility between them.
Even if one day she divorced Nangong Yao, she couldn’t possibly marry him as a divorced woman.
Liang Jingtang saw she wasn’t ready to accept his feelings and didn’t want to pressure her. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. What do you want to eat? I’ll get it for you.”
“No need, Wu Lian just forced me to eat twelve soup dumplings; I’m about to burst.”
Uh… did she just mention Wu Lian’s name?
Accidentally let it slip, should she slap herself?
