Summary
After Mom married a merman, she told me my new stepbrother was curious about life on land and asked me to look after him for a few days.
I readily agreed. But once I’d brought the little merman home, I found another use for our arrangement.
Unable to sleep, I turned toward him in his tank and smiled.
“Sweetie, could you sing to me in your merfolk language?”
He did. I was out in a second.
Then one day, floating comments suddenly flashed before my eyes.
[Wait! Supporting character, take a closer look! I don’t think that’s your merman stepbrother. That’s the villainous jiaoren’s son!]
[I’m dying. That’s not a lullaby. He’s hypnotizing her.]
[Oh my god, the villain has searched the entire sea. He’s almost out of his mind. When he catches her, he’s going to kill her!]
The next instant, someone kicked my front door open.
I’d only just settled into bed. Before I could react, the little jiaoren—a different kind of sea-dweller altogether—was ready to start singing. He called to the intruder:
“Daddy, keep it down! You’re ruining my performance!”
