Summary
My husband, Lin Xubai, had serious stomach problems, so I cared for him full-time.
Then one day, I arrived at his office ten minutes early to bring him lunch.
I saw his new young secretary smiling as she offered him the iced coffee she’d been drinking.
“You have to experience the joy of coffee, Mr. Lin.”
He drank straight from the cup in her hand, then looked pleasantly surprised.
“You young women really know how to enjoy life. This tastes great.”
The secretary handed him a large cup of his own.
“Of course I got one for you too, Mr. Lin. My treat!
“But don’t let the boss’s wife find out. I don’t want to get fired.”
With practiced familiarity, Lin Xubai ruffled her hair. “I’ll hide it in my drawer.”
Later, I found all sorts of things I’d forbidden him to eat in that drawer.
But I did nothing.
I simply began quietly putting our finances in order, calculating how much I’d get when he died.
