Summary
Ever since I was little, I’d loved taking the house apart. When I was done, I could put everything back exactly as it had been.
After graduation, I needed money. That knack landed me a well-paid job as a live-in housekeeper.
I’d heard that my employer had lost the use of both legs, had a dark, withdrawn temperament, and had already driven away seven caregivers.
His mother agreed to give me a chance because we were about the same age.
Before taking me to meet him, she kept reminding me, “Don’t say too much, don’t stare, and get on with your work.”
I nodded. We’d barely reached his door when I heard the lock turn from the inside.
Her face went pale. She began pounding on the door.
“Xiaojing, open up! Don’t frighten me like this!”
The butler found a spare key, but no matter how he tried, the door wouldn’t open.
Everyone was panicking.
I pulled the hairpin from my hair. “Um… shall I try?”
The moment the door opened, my breath caught.
The golden boy I’d had a crush on in school was sitting in a wheelchair.
He, too, froze at the sight of me. Then his expression turned cold.
“Get out!”
