Summary
At ten, Shen Nongyu peeks at her sickly, beautiful childhood friend Gu Chunyi in the bath, and he decides she must adore him. At twenty, the plot’s destined heroine arrives to save him, leaving Nongyu bitter and scheming. At twenty-five, she takes advantage of his illness, runs off with his money, and expects a clean break. She has badly underestimated the devotion of a desperate, dangerously possessive widower. Bad-ending aesthetics and love turned to hate mean nothing to a man determined to keep both his money and the woman who once promised to marry him—unless death parts them first.
